The Friends of Hopewell Public Library was formed in September of 1992 as a volunteer fundraising and advocacy group for the Hopewell Public Library.
Over the years, the Friends have been responsible for the beautification of the Library both inside and out, as well as the expansion of the Library’s many collections. In 2007, the Friends funded the new outdoor sign case and bulletin board, and purchased the beautiful clock that now hangs in memory of Renee Perrin, a dedicated member of the library staff for many years. In 2008, Friends funding was instrumental in automating the library’s collection for electronic checkout and tracking and providing visitors access to manage their borrowing. An extensive renovation of the children’s room in 2011 created a cheerful and useful space for our library’s youngest patrons. We have also funded the purchase of more than 75 large-print books, updated the crafts, parenting, and cooking sections, and expanded the CD and DVD collections. In addition the Friends have sponsored many adult evening seminars including a writer’s workshop, a senior memoir class, and the Hi-Tops programs for parents and “tweens.”
As the Hopewell Public Library looks back over its 90-year history, it continues to be dedicated to providing accessible and informational library services to the community of Hopewell. The Library has always taken great pride in its fine collection of current fiction, biography, nonfiction, and periodicals. It now also provides an impressive local historical collection, a vast collection of books, videos, and audio books for children and adults, high-speed internet service, including Wi-Fi, and a new collection of music CDs. Additional services include organized story times, crafts, and seasonal activities for children, discussion, enrichment and craft activities for adults, and a book delivery service for those unable to leave their homes.
We are grateful to the hundreds of families and individuals throughout the community who support the Friends each year. It is the continuing commitment of our neighbors that makes the Hopewell Public Library a valuable community resource.
